New Jersey Motorsports Park Ground Breaking Set for September 2007
Until this past spring, the idea of The New Jersey Motorsports Park was simply a topic for discussion as neighbors visited their mailboxes and families gathered for holiday celebrations. Now, the 150 million dollar project is a reality.
After several years of planning and relentless determination from the project’s visionary leaders, the first of three construction phases began in late May. Since then, over one hundred thousand yards of soil has been moved and plans for a formal groundbreaking ceremony are in the works. Members of the Green Flag Committee (a group of supporters who have assisted the development team for several years) were treated to a tour of the grounds in Mid-July. The dozens of supporters were then escorted to the adjacent airport administration building in Millville, NJ. The group received informative details of the track’s blueprints that include a 2.25 mile road course (Thunderbolt course) and a 1.9 mile road course (Lightning Course). Both of the road courses will be completed by June of 2008.
Eventually, a three quarter mile banked oval will be put into place along with an off-road course. The facility will also feature a conference center, restaurants, a clubhouse, VIP suites, retail stores, trackside villas, hotels, and a research and development office. The 700 acre project will also bring over 200 jobs into the community. Millville also offers an arts district that will compliment the visitors who will frequent The New Jersey Motorsports Park. The development team is headed by Lee Brahin of Brahin Properties and Harvey Seigel; owner of Virginia International Raceway.
