Weekend Warriors

Saturday Night racing is one of the things drivers miss most when they make it to the top tiers of NASCAR. Those days when the most important part of the night was simply being the first to cross the finish line. Each Friday and Saturday night, thousands of drivers who spend endless hours getting their vehicles ready, line up on dirt and paved ovals anxious to test out their machines. All season long, Girls Garage will turn the spotlight on these racing die-hards.

Elizabeth Alexander
DOB:  10-3-1995

On August 4th, 2007, Elizabeth Faith Alexander will sing the national anthem at New Egypt Speedway.  Her performance will carry on a family tradition at the 1/4 mile clay oval.  Her grandfather was a dirt racer in the 70's and her grandmother Elizabeth, whom she is named after, is the assistant office manager at New Egypt Speedway.  Obviously, racing is more than just a weekend pastime, it's a way of life for Elizabeth's family.

This will mark Elizabeth's first time singing in public and she is excited about the performance.  "I like making people happy, I like just watching them enjoy it."  At the young age of eleven, Elizabeth is not afraid to get up in front of hundreds of people, she has enjoyed being in the spotlight since she was two years old.  "When I was younger, I did some modeling for AT & T and Tums, it was a lot of fun."  Her experience in the acting business has given her the confidence she uses to pursue her dreams in the entertainment industry.  "I don't get nervous.  I don't want to do it for money, I just like to make people happy."

Elizabeth, otherwise known as "Lizzy" around the track, works hard taking voice lessons on a weekly basis. Her mom takes her to and from her appointments with Lauren Messenger, her voice coach.  "The voice lessons help a lot.  My mom takes me so that I can keep getting better."  Singing is another interest that runs in the family.  Elizabeth's mom sings and her Uncle George is also a singer.

After meeting Elizabeth just once, it is evident that she will make her family proud on August 4th.  Her performance will carry on a racing tradition that has been a part of New Egypt Speedway for decades.  Girls Garage will be at the track on August 4th, watching Elizabeth make everyone smile.
