BACKSEAT DRIVERS VOLUME 26
Villeneuve and Talladega...
Volume 26 Backseat Drivers: Do you think Jacques Villeneuve should be allowed to race at Talladega?
Arianne: No. Absolutely not. Other drivers have to prove their abilities on short and intermediate tracks before they can compete on a superspeedway. And for good reason. Formula One cars are completely different animals. Villeneuve most definitely has the racing background to earn his way into NASCAR, but he should do it just like anyone else. It should be entertaining to see how he does in a Car of Tomorrow at Talladega. Jeff Gordon is voicing his opinion on the topic now, imagine if Villeneuve takes him out on lap 12 on Sunday.
Kris: I agree with Kyle Busch - "Holy Cow!" No, I don't think Talledega is the place to make his NASCAR debut. The racetrack is too fast and putting someone out there who's never raced in the series before is just too dangerous - both physically and for the points race.
Kimmie: Jacques Villeneuve is one of the greatest racers alive. However that does not mean that he can jump in any car on any track in any series and be good enough to compete let alone not kill anybody. Racing at 'Dega and Daytona are the hardest to understand due to the number of variables. If he wants to race in NASCAR, he should have to do what every other driver has to do and earn the superspeedway license. The regulars have enough to worry about since this is the first COT race there and it is the Chase. NASCAR needs to listen to its best and brightest like Jeff Gordon.
