Horsepower Hero of the Week
May 15, 2008 Arianne: Tony Stewart. After being wrecked on the third lap in Saturday night's race at Darlington, Stewart raced back from being two laps down to finish 21st. It was far from a win, but considering the fact that he raced back without the help of one single lucky dog award....it was quite an accomplishment. Kimmie: Tony Stewart - He won the Nationwide race Friday night. Although he didn't win the Cup race, he took the "Lady in Black" on a date she'll never forget by racing back to the lead lap - after being down two laps. Maryann: Kyle Busch for overcoming the loose lugnut at Darlington Raceway and winning the race. Sheree: Clint Bowyer for his 2nd win of his career and for making it through the Kyle and Junior mess to go for the win. GO CLINT! You won and you deserved it! Arianne: Kyle Busch. (Junior Nation: Please read why I chose Kyle before you starting yelling at the computer.) He showed an unbelieveable amount of restraint after the Nationwide event last weekend. If Stephen Wallace had grabbed my helmet as he sat safely strapped into his vehicle, I'd be handing over a check made out to NASCAR in the amount of $50,000 the very next morning - and it would have been worth every penny. Kimmie: Joey Logano: You could say he did pretty well in his first attempt at ARCA RE/MAX: he won the pole while setting a series one-lap track record (146.645 m.p.h.), led the most laps, had the fastest race lap (140.812 m.p.h.) and won with a four second lead over Ken Schrader. Not bad for a seventeen year old. May 1, 2008 Arianne: I know I probably won't be alone with this pick. Kyle Busch and his entire #18 JGR team. Mistakes were made but the team's focus remained on the checkered flag. It appears Kyle Busch has learned what patience is all about. Now, can he teach me? Kris: Michael Waltrip- for leading Talladega with just a few laps to go. I just don't understand how he finished 27th. But kudos to him for looking a bit like his old self this week. April 24, 2008 Arianne: FedEx Kinko's and #11 Jpe Gibbs Racing Team. This past weekend, Denny Hamlin's car featured a special paint scheme for the March of Dimes and the annual March for Babies walk. Hamlin's helmet was designed by a five year old young lady who was born premature. Because of efforts like this, more children will beat the odds. Kimmie: Chad Knaus - If winning a championship didn't prove that he is one of the best crew chiefs, then his performance on Sunday should have. He calculated his gas mileage, watched his nearest competitors bring their cars down pit road, and built up a lead that allowed Jimmie to slow down and conserve fuel. Some say he gambled, but in my view, Knaus took a calculated risk and got Hendrick its first win of the season. Arianne: Everyone involved in the decision to unite the IRL and Champ Car. The first race of the season took place this past weekend with Scott Dixon hoisting the trophy. I'm looking forward to the 2008 IRL season. Kris: Elliot Sadler for driving the whole Martinsville race with terrific back pain. Arianne: I'm guessing everyone will pick Wimmer this week but how can anyone ignore his return to Victory Lane in Nashville? Arianne: The thousands of fans who stayed for the four day fesitivites at California. They were soaked, cold, and bored but hung in until the bitter end. Kimmie: The California track staff - They worked hard to keep the fans as happy as possible and make the event finally happen. Kris: My heroes at California would have to be the FOX television crew and reporters who put on a marathon event because of the weather. Sheree: Definitely Ryan Newman on his 1st Daytona 500 win! Arianne: All the go or go homers who made it into the 50th Daytona 500. It's a shame that practice and qualifying was more entertaining than the actual 500, but it is what it is. Maryann: The Captain Roger Penske for finally winning the Daytona 500. He has more victories than any other car owner with the Indianapolis 500 now he can add the Daytona 500 on to his list of wins. Congratulations Roger Penske and Ryan Newman job well done. Kris: My hero for the Daytona 500 is Kyle Busch. I'm disappointed that he didn't win the race after dominating like he did. I still think Rick Hendrick is going to be sorry he let that kid get away! Email your opinion! CLICK HERE

Maryann: Morgan Shepard. He was only going to run until his tires wore out but two-time NASCAR cup champion Tony Stewart stepped in and bought Morgan's tires for the day. Good guys like Morgan Shepard deserve a spot in the field just like everyone else.
Kimmie- The entire #18 Gibbs team- many struggle on superspeedways but these guys went a lap down, had some other boo-boos and still came back to win.
Maryann: My pick for this week is Andy Hillenburg for bringing racing back to Rockingham Speedway. It is great to see some racing back at that wonderful track.
Arianne: Marcos Ambrose: He scored his NASCAR career best finish with his runner up performance in Mexico City. Ambrose also proved that even nice guys realize that success in NASCAR sometimes means having to show some muscle.
Kimmie: Robby Gordon. To Robby, a week off of NASCAR just means he gets to race somewhere on the globe. He is competing in the Central Europe Rally, a replacement for the cancelled Dakar Rally.
Kris: Kyle Busch: Again he proves that Rick Hendrick was foolish to let him get away

Kimmie: Kimi Raikonnen, F1 In Austrailia, the Iceman posted a frosty 8th place finish. However, in Malaysia, he stood atop the podium. His appearance reminded the world that he wants to repeat as champion.
