New Egypt Speedway Results:
October 15, 2007
Ricky Elliott of Seaford, DE came to
New Egypt Speedway on Sunday with eyes on taking home the $5000 top
prize. When all was said and done that is just what happened as Elliott swept the event winning his 10 lap heat race and then taking the 40 lap Super Late Model championship event to close out the Roctober at the Jersey Shore weekend.
"We had a great car today," stated Elliott, "I just want to thank everyone who helps make this possible. I knew Tim (Fuller) was there the last 10 laps and I just concentrated on keeping my line up on the cushion."
Elliott grabbed the lead on the initial start from his outside pole starting spot as Mark Pettyjohn gave chase. Elliott and Pettyjohn quickly opened up a large lead on the rest of the field former NES
Sportsman champion G.R. Smith raced into third followed by his teammate Don Lingo and 12th starting Tim Fuller. Fuller, the 2007 WoO Late Model rookie of the year, was a man on a mission as he charged into third without the help of a yellow flag. The first caution of the event was displayed at the halfway mark closing the field back up behind leader Elliott. At this point just 9 cars remained on the lead lap. The restart saw Fuller waste no time as he shot by Pettyjohn and went right after Elliott. Elliott was setting a blistering pace, but he could not shake Fuller until he got back into lapped traffic, when he opened up a semi comfortable 8 car length advantage. However this was all erased when the second yellow flew on lap 30. This time Fuller would stay with Elliott, even getting a nose under him at times, but was unable to get the bite he needed in the low groove to pull off the winning pass. Elliott drove the perfect line on the cushion over the final 10 laps to take a very popular win over Fuller by just 1 car length. Fuller, who finished fifth in Saturday's second Modified 50 lapper had to settle for second. Mark Pettyjohn drove a strong race, holding off his brother Kenny for third. Kenny Pettyjohn and Don Lingo crossed the line in fourth and fifth respectively.
Rounding out the top ten were Alan Sage, G.R. Smith, David Pettyjohn,
Scott Labarron and Mark Malcomb.
Mike Krachun of Neshanic, NJ ended his New Egypt Sportsman career in
winning fashion as he claimed the win in the 30 lap event. Krachun, who will move up to Big-Block Modifieds next season beat John Romano, Jr. and 2007 champ Willie Osmun to pick up a total of $1900 for the victory. Following Romano and Osmun to the finish were Gary Butler in
fourth and John Stangle in fifth.
In the 20 lap 600cc Micro Sprint feature Jimmy Carpenter won for the second straight time. Carpenter led from the start and held on to win despite a spectacular charge by Glenn Heverin who came from 10th starting spot to finish second using the far outside groove on the speedway. Without the help of a caution over the final 14 laps
Heverin ran out of time and settled for a crowd pleasing runnerup finish. John Carpenter finished third, Jason VanDorn drove home fourth while Ryan McCollum held on to finish fifth.
The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club was on hand and put on an
exhibition race that was won by Wayne Weaver over Dave Sperlin and
brother Paul Weaver.
Coming up on Sunday, October 28th, it will be Halloween Havoc at New
Egypt as the 600cc Micro Sprints return for their final show of the season. They will be joined by a 100 lap Enduro race and a Demolition Derby. Also the Moto Pimps will be on hand to conduct an exhibition of Freestyle Motorcross. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. with racing

Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, PA
captured his fifth main event of the season on Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway as he won the Big Block Modified 30 lap DIRTcar Modified feature. Cozze cashed in for a $3000 payday as he went wire
to wire to post his 22nd career victory at NES.
“We were lucky enough to draw the pole" stated Cozze in the winner's circle, “We have lost numerous times from the pole, so there are no guarantees, but tonight it was our turn.”
Cozze, who won the last point show back on September 1st, drew the #1 pill and lead the field to starter Warren Alston's green flag. Cozze looked strong from the start, and he left no doubt in anyone's mind
that he was the man to beat on this night. Keith Hoffman tried to stay with Cozze during the first 10 laps, but was unable to challenge before a mechanical failure brought an end to his night. Sam Martz
and Bob Drayton then took up the chase but they were no match for the stout #44 of Cozze. Ryan Godown then entered the scene with 12 laps to go, and although he was able to keep Cozze in view, he was unable to mount any kind of a challenge in the late stages, even through two late race restarts. It was all Cozze on this night as he cruised under the checkered flags for his fifth win of the season. Godown ran
a strong second while invader Jeff Strunk came to life late to finish third. Drayton raced home in the fourth position, while Ron John Koczon finished a solid fifth.
The 25 lap Sportsman season finale was won by Glenn Hisko of Bridgewater, NJ. Hisko put it all together on this night holding off a fast John Romano, Jr. to collect his first victory of the season. Early race leader Lou Farina put in an excellent effort finishing
third, followed by Dave Hunt and Mike Howardson. Willie Osmun of Bloomsbury, NJ finished sixth to claim his first ever NES track title.
Matt Kall of Lambertville, NJ won his first ever feature in the 25 lap Super Stock event holding off many challenges from numerous
drivers throughout the event. Mick Search finished right on Kall's bumper to take second, with Kory Fleming posting a solid third. Steve Davis and former champ Billy Bauer rounded out the top five. George
Quinlan rebounded from last year to become the 2007 Super Stock
champion.
The 20 lap feature for the Lucas Ford SS Sprints saw another first time winner as Rich Janney of Halifax, PA captured his first feature of his career. Five time winner Ken Carberry finished a close second,
followed by early leader Dave Martin, Tom Wyckoff, and Art Liedl. By virtue of his fifth place finish, Art Liedl claimed the 2007 SS
Sprint track championship, his fourth in a row.
The Outlaw Stock 12 lap feature went to Brian Ludwig for the fourth time this season, chased by 7 time winner Gary Klimeczak and Rob Longo across the line. Klimeczak became the first ever Outlaw Stock
Champion at NES. This was true in the Crate 1 Sportsman race also, as
E.J. Harrington not only won the 12 lap event, but was crowned the first ever Crate 1 Sportsman champion at the speedway. Scott Cranstoun and Richie Cass, Sr. finished in second and third respectively.
The Run What You Brung show scheduled for next Saturday night, September 29th, has been cancelled. The next events at New Egypt Speedway will be held on the weekend of October 12th- 14th. On Friday
the 12th, 358 Modifieds will compete in the "Sock Hop" 40 lapper paying $4000 to win. Any carburetion 358 C.I. engine legal at your home track will be allowed along with any 92 inch spec. tire. Outlaw Stocks, SS Sprints and Crate 1 Sportsman will also be competing with racing action getting underway at 7pm.
On Saturday Oct. 13th the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series comes to town with the "Guitar Jammin" Twin 50 lap features paying $3000 to win each one. As if this wasn't enough, the always exciting URC Sprint Tour will make it's fifth and final appearance of the season at NES on this evening, along with the Super Stocks. Racing will get start at 6pm.
Sunday Oct. 14th, Super Late Models will make their popular return to the Garden State for the "Rock & Roll 40" paying $5000 to win. Sportsman will be on hand to compete in the "Rock & Roll 25" paying a cool $1200 for first, and the 600cc Micro Sprints will also be racing for $500 to win. Action begins at 4pm on this date.

Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, PA
drove to his fourth victory of the year Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway with an impressive run in the Modified Championship 35 lap feature. Runner up Matt Sheppard chased Cozze across the line, thus locking up his first ever big-block Modified point title. Cozze, who
took the lead on lap 4, pocketed $3000 for his efforts on Reed Sod Farms Wing Night.
“This track is the best," stated a triumphant Cozze in victory lane, “I have been to a lot of other tracks, and no other place compares.
When it is racy like tonight, It is a lot of fun to race on.”
Champion Sheppard was happy that it was finally over as he chilled out in victory lane after the event. "I want to thank my entire team and I want to congratulate Ryan Godown on a great battle this season," stated Sheppard, "It seemed that most of the time it came down to which one of us could get to the front first, and tonight I
was able to accomplish that."
Rich Rutski quickly grabbed the lead from the front row at the outset of the double point event, only to find Cozze right behind him. Rutski held him back till lap 4 when Cozze powered by for the top spot. Cozze immediately began to open up a sizeable advantage over the field as 11th starting Tim Tanner Jr. charged into second. With a
caution closing the field back up, Tanner took advantage as he kept pace with Cozze on the restart leaving the rest of the field behind. Tanner's strong run ended near halfway when his mount dropped some
fluid on the track and he pulled in to the pits ending his run. The ensuing restart found two time NES champ Jimmy Horton and former champ Keith Hoffman next in line to challenge. However, Cozze was up
to this, as he continued to set the pace. With 15 to go, Sheppard entered the picture and battled hard with Horton for the second position. Sheppard grabbed second and the top three of Cozze,
Sheppard and Horton pulled away from the rest of the field. Sheppard made it close over the final five laps, but Cozze proved to be too much on this night as he took the checkered 4 car lengths ahead of
the champion. Sheppard took home second place money which was good
enough to win the 2007 NES DIRTcar Modified track title. Jimmy Horton
turned his recent luck around by finishing a close third. Keith Hoffman was fourth, while championship challenger Ryan Godown took fifth.
The 25 lap URC Sprint Car tour event saw Pedricktown, NJ's J.J. Grasso win his first career URC sprint race. Grasso set a blistering pace all night as he took top honors in his heat race turning a
couple of laps that were just 7/100 of a second off the track record, and then leading every lap of the feature to record his first victory. Grasso used the extreme outside groove up against the fence
in the feature to secure the win. Michael Carber, who has won the last two URC events here at NES, rallied back in the final stages to claim second, followed by Mark Bitner in third. 410 Sprint standout
Lucas Wolfe came from 14th to finish in the fourth spot, with ageless Kramer Williamson completing a strong run in fifth.
The 20 lap Sportsman feature was taken by veteran Willie Osmun of Bloomsbury NJ as he powered by Clay Butler with just 3 laps to go to take the victory. Butler ended his impressive run with a strong second place finish, followed by Steve Schmidt, John Stangle and Chad Barney.
Bryan Reed of Howell, NJ won the 25 lap Super Stock event as he reclaimed the lead from Al Cheney in the last 9 laps to post his
second win of the year. Al Cheney crossed the line on Reed's bumper to finish second, while Bob Vaccaro finished third. Jason Bubeck and Billy Bauer rounded out the top five.
Next Saturday night, September 8th, the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will headline the card which will also feature the Sportsman, Super Stocks, Crate 1 Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks. Gates will open at 2pm with the first race at 6pm. For more information, call the speedway

Invader Billy Decker swapped the lead with home track hero Keith Hoffman on three occasions and his final pass with 10 laps to go was enough to carry him on to his third Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series win of the season Wednesday as K&A Excavating presented the Big Bear 60 at New Egypt Speedway.
Hoffman settled for runner-up laurels and earned himself preferred starter status in the Rite Aid 200 Championship on Oct. 7 during Super DIRT Week XXXVI at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Brett Hearn finished third to extend his Advance Auto Parts Series points lead while Dale Planck crossed the line fourth ahead of Tim Fuller in round 16 of the 2007 tour for DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds.

Twin 50s at Can-Am and a pair of 53-lappers at Cayuga County headline the final tour shows in August with each offering valuable points towards the overall Hoosier-Sunoco Mr. DIRTcar Championship.
