BACKSEAT DRIVERS VOLUME 24
Robby Gordon vs NASCAR
Who's right?
Volume 24 Backseat Drivers: Do you agree with the NASCAR ruling in the Robby Gordon caution debate at Montreal?
Katy: I don't agree with it. I actually don't think it was harsh enough. Robby acted stupidly, and he had to have known it at the time he did it. He could have seriously hurt somebody. He was careless, and reckless, and like I said, I don't think it was harsh enough. I think he got off easy.
Kris: This is kind of a double edged sword. First of all, after I've reviewed the race tape, I think Robby passed Marcos under the yellow and it was yellow when Marcos turned Robby. Therefore- Robby should have been placed back in the 2nd position before the restart and he probably could have won the race. He was wronged there!
But- he didn't follow NASCAR's orders to get in line where they wanted to put him. Yes, their decision to put him in 13th was wrong, but he isn't the first guy and won't be the last guy to get a raw deal from NASCAR. He should have followed their orders and he would've raced on Sunday. But- maybe it was worth that price to him to make his point.
Arianne: I think NASCAR's decision to score Robby in 13th after he was obviously spun out after the caution flag flew is a complete embarrassment to the sport. Robby may have subsequently acted out of line but I can't say that I would have reacted any differently. Robby's admitted that he mishandled the situation now why can't NASCAR do the same?
Maryann: I think both NASCAR and Gordon are wrong. Gordon was wrong for not obeying the black flag. You can't be disrespectful to NASCAR. He was warned by his spotter and crew chief. Now as for NASCAR, I think they better replay that video again. Now remember I didn't watch the race, I have only looked at the replay. But it looks like he was spun after the caution came out. So do I think he should have been penalized any more? NO.
Sheree: Well, I watched the footage a few times and it looked to me like Robby was leading prior to the caution coming out! So if this IS the case, NASCAR made a huge mistake!!!! Like usual! And I’m about 100% sure they will never fix their mistake! When I saw Robby doing his burn-out’s with Kevin Harvick, I couldn’t help but laugh my butt off! Come on now people! It was hysterical, regardless if you love or hate Robby Gordon, he definitely deserved his burnout! And I think Kevin Harvick agreed! That’s just my opinion! Take it or leave it, but I think Robby deserved the win.
Brianna: The short answer is NO, I do not agree with NASCAR's ruling. Robby saw what he saw, NASCAR saw what they saw, and I saw what I saw. I also heard Robby say he did not see the car that he was supposed to be behind when NASCAR black flagged him. What is up with that statement? As a television fan that was live drama right before your eyes. You knew Robby was going to take him out and then he did, and did it well I might add. So in summary Robby and I agree; therefore, we overrule NASCAR by a margin of 2:1. I wonder what others would have done if they were in Robby's shoes. Others like Tony or maybe even Kevin, and oh by the way did we forget who started the yellow...was it Kevin?
Heather: Yes I do agree with the NASCAR ruling. He should not have spun Marcus Ambrose out under caution as retaliation. It was wrong of him to let his temper get the best of him. Also, I agree with NASCAR making Robby Gordon sit out the race at Pocono. Regardless of which series the driver is in; all of the penalties should follow the driver.
