BACKSEAT DRIVERS
  VOLUME 31:

Many drivers are going to different teams.  What are the best and worst moves from your point of view?

Arianne:  Best Move: Kyle Busch. It may be a challenge going to Toyota, but in the long run the move to Gibbs will prove to be the best off track decision of his career.  He'll be free to be himself with an organization that is used to channeling difficult personalities.  Worst Move:  Rick Hendrick letting go of Kyle Busch.  See above.

Kris:  The worst move from my point of view is Rick Hendrick letting go of Kyle Busch. That kid is going to be a champion sooner, rather than later. Gibbs better try to steal Alan Gustafson away from Hendrick as well. He and Kyle have one of those driver/crew chief combos that really works. Besides that- Kyle is the face of Kellogg's cereal, not Casey Mears. With his haircut, Casey Mears continues to be the face of the National Guard. Kyle and Tony Stewart are both volitile personalities (Tony is definitely the bigger time bomb) and I suspect that is going to clash over at Joe Gibbs Racing.

One of the best moves-Dario Franchitti to the #40. As much as I love David Stremme's personalitity and I feel bad that he doesn't have a ride next year, I think Dario is going to bring a huge fan base to the sport and he will find success. Having his wife Ashley Judd along each week will only add more interest.

Heather: One of the best moves is also one of the worst ..... for every other team. I believe Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s move from Dale Earnhardt Inc. to Hendrick Motorsports signifies the end of an era for DEI. No matter what they do for Martin Truex Jr. DEI will not be the same powerhouse it once was with Dale Jr. behind a wheel. Teresa was a fool for not giving into Dale's demands. I predict this move could be the start of DEI's demise.  As far as Hendrick Motorsports, the rest of the teams are in for trouble. Between Johnson's back-to-back championships, Gordon's strong runs and now the addition of Dale Jr. to the ranks, I believe the rest of the teams will be sitting ducks. After all, Hendrick Motorsports has won a total of six Daytona 500s. Add in Dale Jr's victory from 2004 and I'd be very surprised if one of the Hendrick
cars doesn't win the Great American Race.

Brianna:  Junior to join "The Dream Team" is my pick for the BEST MOVE in 2008.  Kyle Busch will make the most of situation at Gibbs Racing as long as he just drives the car and doesn't drive the wheels off the car.  Sam Hornish to the Penske stables will be interesting to watch.  I am hoping that Michael Waltrip racing will come full circle and be competitive but don't hold your breath.
