BACKSEAT DRIVERS
VOLUME 35

Now that Speedweeks 2008 is over, what were your favorite/worst moments?

Heather: The worst moment was when Tony Stewart got freight-trained by the Penske teammates.

Kris:  I think some of the best moments were to see how strong Toyota is this year (Maybe Mikey will have a chance for a good showing in 2008!) and even though he's not my favorite driver by far, it was good to see Dale Jr. win the shootout and the Gatorade Duel for his new team and sponsor. The worst moment(s) to me were to see just how damn long Tony Stewart's hair is. Since his plan to cut it after the 500 win didn't work out, I hope he'll give in and just do it- rather than wait for a special occasion in the future like Carl Edward's guy did last year with his beard.

Brianna:  I think the J Team: Junior, Jeff, Johnson (and I will add Casey Mears) to that are the team to watch.  Casey is the one to watch not just the others.  Also look at Jeff Burton, he had a great run at the end.  COT is the real deal.  Sirius Radio is new to me and I love listening to it.  NASCAR had a great SUPERBOWL.

Sheree:  For me it was nice to see Ryan Newman win the race!  That was a nice change of pace. It's nice to see someone out of the normal wins the Daytona 500. So I say kudos to Ryan and his team! Way to go!

Arianne:   Ryan Newman surprising everyone with his first Daytona 500 victory checks in as my favorite moment. Watching his dad tear up during the post race festivities brings the sport back to when winning was all that mattered.  Though it may not be a "moment", the fact that one team did not dominate the entire week scores big in my book.  Hopefully the rest of the season will play out the same way.  Parity can do wonders for any professoinal sport.

My worst moments would have to be the first 180 painfully boring laps of the Daytona 500.  I had to run outside in the cold rain in order to stay awake for the first two and half hours of the event.  The new car of today, anything but stock (or whatever they're calling it) race car looks to be so tough to drive that even the most aggressive drivers are afraid to move the steering wheel.

Katy:   To me, the best moment was Brian Vickers making the 500. He is one of my absolute favorite drivers, and last year was pretty harsh, so making the 500 this year gives us Brian fans hope for a MUCH better year. The worst thing to me, and I know I'm gonna make some people mad with this, but the worst thing to me was the constant mention of Junior and his new team. I don't hate the guy, but seriously, it was getting a little insane there towards the end, and I'm just glad it's over. Even though I'm sure it'll continue the whole season.

Paolo:  Best moment: Dale Jarrett, in.  Worst moment: Bill Elliott, out.  (I always root for the old time "gentleman" drivers if you asked me... lol)
