BACKSEAT DRIVERS Volume 39
What significance, if any, do you think Danica Patrick's win at the Japan 300 will have for motorsports?
Arianne: I am not sure that Patrick's win will have much significance in the every day operations of motorsports but I think it's safe to assume that she has done her part in making the sport an easier place for women to compete. Just like the Ethel Mobley's and Lyn St. James' of the past, Danica Patrick's win on Saturday evening will be an inspiration to young girls all over the world.
Kris: I'm very happy for her. I've been rooting for her for a long time, but racing will never become a sport that has very many successful females. I understand her win was a fuel mileage race. If it hadn't of been, she wouldn't have come out on top. Fluke?
Kimmie: This is big, however, I think it is sad at the same time. In an age when equailty should be the norm, we still have to celebrate female and minorities as more than just drivers. I stand firm in my belief that people should only get rides if the they deserve it and she does.
Brianna: I think the WHOLE WORLD knows about Danica's win Wait till Indy rolls around if folks did not know she won in Japan, they will know it for sure in May. And if she leads a lap or wins at Indy, the crowd and TV announcers will raise the roof. If a girl has the skills and finances behind her, then the sky is the limit. That goes for NASCAR as well. I think it will raise the level of interest for sure and I am proud of her accomplishments.
