BACKSEAT DRIVERS VOLUME 36
Now that the IRL and Champ Car have reunited, what are your thoughts?

BACKSEAT DRIVERS VOLUME 36

What are your thoughts on the merger of Champ Car and IRL?

Arianne:   Better late than never. The powers that be finally read the writing on the wall.  Everyone will benefit from the merger, not just Tony George.  What's the saying?  United we stand, divided we fall.

Kimmie:  Everybody knew this finally had to happen.  Each series was competing for the same fans and neither doing exceptionally well.  Champ Car was put in a tighter spot when Sebastien Bourdais left for the greener and richer pastures of F1.  If they combine their strengths, open wheel will make a resurgence and the hemorrhage of drivers to F1 and NASCAR will cease.

Brianna:   Change is good.  I think a merger will do wonders for open wheel.  I hope there are enough drivers in this series since all of them want to come over to NASCAR.

Sheree: I think that it maybe more exciting for race fans, but all of the owners seem a little unsure of everything still which I think is to be expected. I saw an interview with the three owners this morning.  They have a lot of details to work out still, but they feel confident that everything will be ready for the Indy 500.

Tony George was saying this morning, that he doesn’t even really know what to expect yet of the reunification of U.S. open-wheel racing, and that he thought everything wouldn’t come together until Indy, which is May 25th. He didn’t think things would “feel right” until then. I guess only time will tell, but I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for the fans to watch!

RESPONSE:

I really don't see how merging those two bodies will help, since I don't know anyone who cares about that type of racing.
